New Residential Energy Code for Michigan
Effective February 28, 2005 the state has adopted a revised Michigan Uniform Energy Code based on Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code as amended by Michigan.
Compliance can be demonstrated by 1 of the following:
Meeting the requirements of the code.
Meeting the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code for detached 1- and 2-family dwellings.
Meeting the design, construction and certification requirements under the US EPA ENERGY STAR® Homes Program .
Meeting the design and construction requirements in conformance with the national Home Energy Rating System (HERS) guidelines with a score of 83 or better. A certificate indicating the score prepared by an accredited agency shall be filed with the code official.
